MuleBar Energy Bar 24 Pack

Mule Bars are great tasting energy bars made from all natural ingredients in some slightly different flavour combinations from other energy bars.

Flavours

Available in the following flavours or select a mixed flavour pack and try them all -

  • Chocolate Fig Fiesta - Chocolate, fig and crushed almond - This is our personal homage to all the great things about Spain, or maybe I should say Fiestas. Mountain bike the Sierra Nevada and tell us we're wrong. Rich, high 70% cocoa content chocolate, mixed with figs and flaked almonds leap out of the bar and stay with you mouth after mouth.
  • Hunza Nut - Apricot and walnut - In the Hunza Valley of Northern Pakistan, the apricot is referred to as Hunza Gold - the original name for our bar until someone's lawyer told us we couldn't call it that . The apricots are Fairtrade and unsulphured and when mixed with good old fashioned Walnut they provide a true Christmas cake of an energy bar. Hunza nut delivers 338kj of calories per 100 grammes.
  • Liquorice Allsport - Liquorice, coconut and fennel seed -  A lot of feedback from triathletes, cyclists and other long distance people has been that it would be great to have something which isn't another fruit energy bar. Here's the first. Liquorice is exceptionally good for the digestive system apart from also being a great healer.
  • Mango Tango - Organic mango and cashew nuts - take the highest quality, Fairtrade dried mango from Uganda, add cashew nuts and our high energy natural base of Mulebar and you can see where the Tango comes from. Each Mango Tango bar delivers a kicking 371Kcal of calories per 100 grammes. This Mulebar does contain gluten, soya, dairy, nuts and seeds.
  • Pinacolada - Pineapple, coconut and goji berry - Exactly what you'd think is in this bar: a slice of pineapple with a heavenly shot of coconut. But for the added surprise topping we've found Chinese Ghoji berries for their vitamin C enhancing capabilities. Each Piñacolada Mulebar delivers 343kj of calories per 100 grammes
  • Strudel - Organic apple, raisin and cinnamon - homage to the great Austrian pastry. There are layers of flavour in this bar which you just don't expect from an energy bar: the organic apple is a a great mix with cinnamon and then ripe, sweet raisins. Have a good look at the wrapper too, the moon's been swapped for an apple!
  • Summer Pudding - Raspberry, cranberry and blackberry - To celebrate MuleBar being the Official Energy Bar to the Tour of Britain and The prostate Cancer Charity Tour Rides, we have created this Summer fruits flavour. A pudding of a bar with Raspberry, Cranberry and Blackcurrant. It’s full of kickin’ energy like all our bars and is one of those classic lovely, fresh summery tastes.

Press Reviews

Cycling Plus

MuleBar Strudel - Real apples organically grown in orchards approved by the soil association. We love there are so few ingredients. Tastes great, with both fast and slow release energy.

Whereas some energy products can taste a bit bland, there is absolutely nothing subtle about these bars. Even more outrageous are the Pinacolada and Liquorice Allsports varieties.

Many of the ingredients are organic - and the packets for most flavours carry a Soil Association approved logo. Continuing the good stuff, some ingredients are Fairtrade too, and a percentage of profits are donated to the “1% for the Planet” campaign.

Mule bars are smooth and slightly chewy. They’re not crumbly at all and they don’t fall apart as you get them out the packet (important if you’re eating on the bike). Summer Pudding is fruity and sweet, as you might expect. Mango Tango is still fruity, but surprisingly not so sweet.

Verdict - Mule Bars are well worth trying. They’re very tasty, easy to eat, and provide a good energy boost - and the natural ingredients might be a definite benefit if you get stomach trouble from other energy products.

Cycling Weekly

Mule Bar Summer Pudding - Full of natural ingredients, this bar's main carbohydrate source is rice syrup which releases quickly for energy and when paired with rolled oats provides a complement to these slow release carbs. Fortified with whey protein too, this tasty bar is a treat to get down and will not only provide energy but help to reduce muscle damage while riding too. Without the usual additives and sweeteners found in bars this is instead sweetened with natural fruits including apricot, raspberry and cranberries.

Best Energy Bar 2010 - Mule Bar Summer Pudding - Loaded with real raspberries, cranberries and blackcurrants, there's nothing in the ingredients list you won't recognise. "The sugars from the rice syrup and fruit are absorbed rapidly and starchy carbohydrate from oatmeal and oats provides a sustained flow of sugars into the bloodstream" says Hunter.

MuleBar Hunza Nut - Here is a bar with ingredients you can recognise. A mixture of dried fruit, oats and nuts provides a lot of carbohydrate, and the low fat content means this bar would be quickly digested. It's soft and easy to eat. Not as sticky as pure apricots, not as dry as oats. The makers characterise it as 'fuel for adventure'. The sugars (from rice syrup and apricots) will be absorbed rapidly and starchy carbohydrate (from oatmeal and oats) will provide a sustained flow of sugars into the bloodstream. Verdict - The good quality ingredients and absence of unnecessary preservatives or colourings make this a bar you could eat as a regular pre-ride snack, or to keep you going on a long ride.

Cycling Weekly

Mule Bars were developed by a guy who wasn’t impressed with the selection of energy bars available. He started making his own in the kitchen and after feedback from friends has now got what is probably the tastiest bar on the market.

Mule now has a selection of six different flavours. The bars are wrapped in a loose package that is easy to open and get the bar out of while on the move. The consistency of the Mule Bar is neither too hard to bite off or too soft that they break and fall apart. Even in sub-zero temperatures the bars were easily chewable. Mule flavours are distinctive yet not overpowering and do not have any aftertaste.

Pros - Tasty, Easy to get out of wrapper, Good consistency, Easy to chew, even in freezing weather. Cons - None – yum!

Verdict - The Mule Bar is a little pricey for training at around £1.30 a bar, but for racing they are far superior in both taste and operation to the competition
