Science In Sport Go Energy Bar Single

Science In Sport (SIS) Go Energy Bars are chewy fruit and cereal based bars using natural ingredients such as fruit, fruit juices and organic oats to deliver sustained energy.

Every Go Bar is packed with fruit, the equivalent of about two whole portions of fruit from your 5 a day, they're made by combining real fruit and fruit juices (concentrated grape juice is the prime basis of the bars) with organic oats and soya (soya is a great source of protein, naturally high in glutamine which is particularly important for recovery and adaptation to exercise) to create a chewy textured bar. They contain no hydrogenated vegetable oils, added sugar, artificial flavours, preservatives, or colours.

Each Go Bar comes in at around just 2% fat (Apple & Blackcurrant 2%, Tropical Fruit 2%, Cherry & Vanilla 2%, Chewy Banana 2%, Chocolate & Orange 4%).

Flavours

SIS Go Bars are available in Apple & Blackcurrant, Banana, Cherry Vanilla, Chocolate Orange and Tropical Fruit flavours.

Alternative Pack Sizes

As well as being available to purchase as single bars, SIS Go Bars are available to purchase in packs of 24

Press Reviews

220 Triathlon

Described as a 'chewy fruit and cereal bar' each 65g bar delivers a very useful 44g of carbohydrate. Even better, the majority (60%) of this is of the slower-releasing variety, coming courtesy of cereals such as rice, maize and oats with the remainder from fruit sources like raisins, grape and apple juice. Another bonus is the low fat content - just 1.9g per 100g - which makes it light on the stomach and easily digested. And while there's no added vitamin/mineral blend, there are no artificial additives, either, and the natural ingredients supply useful amounts of fibre, too. The GO bar may not boost ultra-high tech ingredients but the moderately sweet taste balances well with the tanginess of the fruit. The consistency is moist and chewy, and at £28.80 for a box of 24 (£1.20 per bar), SiS's GO is great value for money. Other flavours in the range include chewy banana, tropical fruit, chocolate and orange, and cherry vanilla.

TriRadar

The cobbled texture of rice, oats and soya nuggets in the Go bar mean chewing is slightly slow – particularly when cold – but there’s no stickiness afterwards, which is great in hotter temperatures or during higher intensity use. A decent amount of protein and the overall recipe mix means energy arrives controllably and it’s a decent post-ride or run choice. None of the flavours are too sweet either and they stay palatable even after eating several in a row on a long day or heavy weekend of training. Loose packaging makes it easy to pull open even with gloves on and there’s a 40g, £1 option for smaller appetites. Fat is very low, they’re vegan friendly and free from artificial colouring, flavouring, preservatives and nuts.

Verdict - Chewy, but otherwise very versatile, easy on the stomach, high-performance snacking. Performance 5/5, Value 4/5, Overall 4/5.

MBUK

So Good... Go Bars from SIS are available in five fruity flavours and have the lowest percentage of saturated fat in this group - a svelte 0.4 per cent (apart from the chocolate/orange flavour, which still contains an impressive 2.3 per cent of sat fat). The bars are a sticky mix of concentrated grape juice, organic oats, fruit and soya that combine to produce a tasty and healthy energy snack. They're also the cheapest bars on test.

No Good... Energy content is fairly low, beating only the Torq bar at power boosting.

Cycling Plus

A firm texture, but easy to bite and chew, although can harden in the cold. Not as moist as a Clif Bar, but cherry and almond tastes much closer to how you'd expect. You don't need to eat much before you feel sated. A concentrated source of calories achieved through the combination of a few good ingredients. Verdict 7/10.
