SIS Super Hydro Electrolyte Drink

Science In Sport Superhydro is a low calorie sports drink designed to meet the hydration and fluid replacement needs of athletes and sports people competing in hot and humid environments.

Super Hydro was developed in conjunction with SiS development partners British Sailing in their build up to the Beijing Olympics and designed to solve the problem of athletes needing to keep alert and hydrated during long periods in heat and humidity without consuming too many calories. It's ideal for those gym workouts when you do not need to load up on calories.

Super Hydro 15:30 will aid athletes with extreme hydration needs, those on calorie controlled diets or with specific weight restrictions and targets and is also ideal for low carb training.

Each box contains 12 x 4 gram sachets of powder, one 4 gram sachet makes up to 500 ml of mixed drink when added to water.

Flavours

Available in lemon with green tea extract or berry with natural elderberry extract.

Triathlete's World

The sweet taste might fool you but SIS's new Super-Hydro drink is a largely calorie-free addition to the sports nutrition market. It comes as a powder that mixes easily with water (one sachet makes a 500ml drink) and is designed as a rehydration product that replaces sodium and other electrolytes lost through excessive sweating. Most triathlons demand a drink with more calories and carbohydrate so SuperHydro is best used post-event or on particularly hot days.

220 Triathlon

SiS’s Super Hydro offering is a relatively low carbohydrate (20g), high sodium (700mg) drink. As a result, when mixed as directed, it doesn’t feel too heavy on the stomach, with the carbohydrate concentration equating to 2%, compared to typical isotonic sports drinks at 6%. Despite this, Super Hydro is surprisingly sweet and you’d be forgiven for assuming that it should have more of an energy focus. The fact is that if you’re out on a long session (1hr plus) then you’re probably going to need an extra supplement of carbohydrate to ensure glycogen stores are maintained.

As suggested on the packet, Super Hydro is useful in the heat, or if you’re a particularly salty sweater. If not, then this is probably not the drink you should be using for a light session down at the gym every day, due to its relatively high sodium content and the health risks associated with too much sodium ingestion, such as high blood pressure and heart disease. 220 Triathlon Rating - 7
