Triradar

Made with 90% organic ingredients, they taste natural and sit well on your stomach. They contain maltodextrin for long energy, and organic cane syrup for a fast-energy hit. There’s sea salt in there too, to boost hydration. They come in various strengths of caffeine – we tested the ‘half shot’ version which gave a sweet but mellow taste with a tiny hint of caffeine bitterness. The gel itself is quite thick, but the warmth of your palms soon makes them runny.

Tri Radar

Swallowing an energy gel is normally a ‘grin and bear it’ situation, but these ones are surprisingly pleasant tasting. They’ve been popular in the US for a while, and now they’re being distributed in the UK. They’re endorsed by multiple world champion Chris “Macca” McCormack and his mugshot even appears on his favourite flavour, the Double Expresso. We preferred the chocolate flavour, as it tastes more like the inside of a Ferrero Rocher than an energy gel. Nutritionally it’s not perfect – it doesn’t have the 2:1 ratio of dextrose to fructose that science suggests is best, although there are other flavours in the range that do. Having said that though, they all taste great and they’re 100% organic, so when you’re feeling rubbish in a race they come as a welcome treat rather than something you force down with a grimace. Verdict - Surprisingly tasty energy gels that you won’t mind gulping down at your next race.
