Mule ReFuel Recovery Bar - 24 Pack
MuleBar ReFuel Recovery Bar 24 Pack
24 pack of Mule ReFuel bars, ReFuel bars provide a natural source of protein to help you recover and build muscle after exercise.
High in protein, the ReFuel bars are made for "après" sport recovery usage primarily, but are also well positioned to help athletes and snackers looking to build lean body mass. The bars are the only Fairtrade protein bars on the UK market and are designed to look more like a chocolate bar than a performance bar. Highest quality, 80% whey protein is used as well as MuleBar's normal highest quality fruit.
In the Chocolate & Date flavour dates have been selected as they naturally contain the highest protein content of all fruits. Whilst bananas in the Chocolate & Banana variety are naturally high in potassium and Vitamin B6 helping muscle and nerve reparation.
Recommended Usage
Consume 1 recovery bar within the first 20-60 minutes after exercise.
Immediately after training your cells are most receptive to nutrients. The branch chain amino acids (BCAA) in whey protein are associated with improved muscle recovery and prevention of muscle wasting, whilst high GI sugars have been shown to be excellent for replenishing muscle energy stores in the 24hrs post exercise.
The more you exercise the greater your protein requirements. Average endurance athletes require between 1.2 and 1.7g of protein per kg of their body weight per day. Use this bar as a snack when you can’t get to a proper meal and protect your body’s protein reserves.

Best Buy For Energy Content - Mule Refuel is now an international brand that started up as a small business in Wiltshire in 2002. They use organic and fairtrade ingredients whenever possible of the Refuel bars, which come in Chocolate Date and Chocolate Banana flavours, are the protein enriched version of the original Energy Bars. The 13g of protein comes mostly from whey and just like the energy bars, the base ingredients are dried fruit, nuts, and rice crisps. The bars are free from sugars and artificial ingredients. Mule ReFuel are the winners of the Energy Content category because the manage to pack 261 healthy calories into a 65g bar.

These Mule bars make a good recovery food, being far less processed than the majority of bars on the market. Each bar contains around 260 calories, 38g carbohydrate and 13g protein, so they’re ideal for immediate refuelling.
The sugars (carbohydrates) come mainly from rice syrup, date and banana, and the main source of protein is whey protein. Despite Mule’s reputation for tasty energy treats, the Refuel proved chewy, the flavouring (Chocolate and Date, and Chocolate and Banana) highly divisive in our taste test and some found them sickly post-workout. If so, a banana might better suit. But they’re certainly appropriate for refuelling, especially during the 30-45 minute window of opportunity when the muscles are most receptive to uptake of glucose and amino acids.
Another drawback, though, is that they contain the three top allergens – soya, nuts and dairy – making them out of bounds for those with food allergies. Rating - 8.

Mule Bar's unique selling point is the use of entirely natural and, where possible, Fair Trade-sourced ingredients. In terms of nutrition, the figures seem bang on the money. Each 65g square bar packs in 260 calories consisting of 13g of protein, 38g of carbohydrate and just 7g of fat. I put them to the test in several demanding events last summer, where recovery was critical. Multi-day events such as the Tour of Wessex and the Cent Cols Challenge turned out to be tough proving grounds. As your 'recovery strategy' starts the moment you stop cycling, being able to get a dose of protein and carbs into your body quickly is essential and fortunately the ReFuel bars hit the spot.
Verdict - Mule Bar's ReFuel bar packs all the ingredients needed for recovery while managing to actually taste really damn good.
